Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.
Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

This morning too I felt it: we as a people on this planet have risen beyond duality. We are one. Always have been, and yet now more so as different realities are shared in harmony with free will. Democracy has been restored thanks to grass roots movements by many people within and outside the USA. All this with the whole world watching in support of and wishing for new directions . The sun rise today brings along -more then ever before - possiblities of new directions.
For anyone still doubting whether Obama is the right man for the job of leading the country, take a look here: http://www.neptunecafe.com/obama.html
I never usually start the day with the tv on, but today was a happy exception, as I caught a glimpse of a humble, joyful and spirited Maya Angelou reciting excepts of her poem as copied above. It was like she had written it especially for today. Now we can all, no matter what color we are, rise beyond slavery!
In gratitude,
Nell ;-o
Yes, Nell, felt the rising, too! Thank you for sharing that wonderful poem of Maya Angelou, so appropriate for today! Blessings! Awesome image!
Hi Mila,
So good to hear you too felt the rising! Thanks for acknowledging the image. Some info about it here:
“In general, a circumhorizontal arc (or “fire rainbow”) appears when the sun is high in the sky (i.e., higher than 58° above the horizon), and its light passes through diaphanous, high-altitude cirrus clouds made up of hexagonal plate crystals. Sunlight entering the crystals' vertical side faces and leaving through their bottom faces is refracted (as through a prism) and separated into an array of visible colors. When the plate crystals in cirrus clouds are aligned optimally (i.e., with their faces parallel to the ground), the resulting display is a brilliant spectrum of colors reminiscent of a rainbow.”
Thought it especially appropriate for the occasion.

You're welcome, Meenakshi. And thanks for your presence - always a gift.
Thank you for the added info about the “fire rainbow”, a wonder of nature. Now that I know all about it, I wish to see the real thing soon! Hugs, Nell!
That's the spirit, Mila! Go for it, and be sure to send me a picture ;-)
